Object of the Centre.

The Karten CTEC Centre enables adolescents and adults with dyslexia to have specialist teaching provision using computer based programs to allow them to increase their employment opportunities and skills base. The centre provides assessments, and specialist teaching to meet their development needs.

Description of location, buildings, premises.

The CTEC Centre covers the ground floor of Trident House, a two storey building in the Leeds suburb of Moortown. The 2nd floor contains the DI centre. The centre is close to excellent public transport and the catchment area is Leeds and the surrounding area.

Object of the Charity.

To ensure that all individuals with Dyslexia are identified and educated to allow them to be successful by providing accurate assessments and the most appropriate teaching and working to influence and improve the practice of mainstream education services for children and adults with dyslexia, through specialist teacher training, the development of high quality teacher tools, the evaluation of teaching methods to achieve better practice and improving awareness and understanding.

Day care offering assessments and specialist tuition to children and adults with dyslexia at 25 centres and 145 teaching outposts.

Brief History.

The Institute was founded in 1972 by the North Surrey Dyslexia Society for the purpose of making educational provision for individuals with dyslexia. In 1974 it operated as the Surrey Dyslexia Foundation Limited. In 1982 Surrey was deleted from the name and in June 1991 the name was changed to the Dyslexia Institute Limited.

To assist adults with a learning disability and those that support them to develop a range of IT skills and knowledge in communication, learning, leisure, social inclusion and employment. To offer some specific courses with accreditation.

Object of the Charity.

HFT is a national charity for people with learning disabilities. They provide a range of services including supported living, registered care homes, advocacy, supported employment, short breaks (respite) and day services. They also provide a national support service for carers of people with learning disabilities.

HFT is a national charity, established in 1962 by parents of sons and daughters with learning disabilities. They set out to provide quality care in an environment where, however profoundly disabled, people are able to develop their potential and acquire greater independence. It provides a range of services for approximately 826 people across the country.

Further Information.

The CTEC Centre has been developed and adapted for people who are deafblind or who have a single sensory loss. It is attached to a current Day Service for people who are deafblind. The building has disabled access throughout and is developing partnerships with organisations of and for people with sensory loss as well as with local education and employment services.

Object of the Charity.

To ensure that all deafblind people and their families have access to advice opportunities and support to meet their unique and different needs.

Residential or Day Care.

Sense provides a whole range of support services for people with Deafblindness and associated disabilities including 24 hour support in residential accommodation and support in the service users own home or community. They also provide educational and occupational day services as well as advice to deafblind people and their families and carers.

Brief History.

Sense was formed in 1955 as a support group for the families of children born deafblind because of the rubella (German measles) virus. Over the last 45 years Sense has grown into the largest specialist deafblind organisation working in the UK.
