Aaron, aged 20, suffering from Cerebral Palsy, successfully followed a course of NVQ's (National Vocational Qualifications) in Customer Services and Administration in the Karten CTEC Centre at Treloar College, a National Specialist College of Further Education for students with Physical Disabilities.
As a direct result of the work he covered throughout his course, Aaron's skills and confidence developed significantly. Aaron left the College in July 2004 and was interviewed for an office-based job. He was successful in being offered the post, however, after nine months, he had not been able to start the job because of delays in his employers obtaining suitable office furniture for him.
Fortunately for Aaron, the Treloar Trust recently advertised for someone to join the team responsible for maintaining its comprehensive IT system. Aaron saw the advertisement, applied for the job and has been offered the position. He started working for the Treloar Trust on 7th February 2005.
Aaron feels that: "The IK Centre provided me with the opportunity to develop the qualifications, practical and personal skills required to work in Administration and Customer Services. Since passing my driving test, I have been actively seeking employment whilst spending a month in a temporary contract working in a call centre environment so that I could keep my skills fresh.
I have recently been successful in gaining employment in the Computer Services team at Treloar College. Not only will the job enable me to help people to resolve their computer-related problems, it will also let me give something back to the system which supported me when I was a student in the Ian Karten Centre".
